15 Ethel Benjamin Place
About the house: Landlord changed in 2013 and is absolutely terrible - doesn't do any of the maintenance, repairs, makes snarky remarks, and barges in whenever they like for "inspections" and "repairs". Internet included but ridiculously slow and they refuse to do anything about it cos they won't pay more than $50 for it.

Best Thing: Close to university
Worst Thing: Landlord
About the house: Warm, only shared with two other tenants, everything provided, gets enough sun during the day, furnished, super close to university.
Landlord/Property Manager: Two landlords in charge of the place - both unresponsive to texts and emails, both not really reliable for maintenance and repair of the place. If you need anything replaced, it probably won't happen for awhile, if at all. The cleaning is pretty terrible, and spring cleaning was most definitely skipped during the summer even though they deny it. Even though rent was paid for the entire summer break, the cleaner skipped cleaning the rooms as long as you're not in.
Also, quick heads up - landlords both tend to be super friendly and super nice when you're signing up for the place and showing interest, but once you sign up, they pretty much don't actually care about you anymore. Refused to change the internet when it was slow as well. They also tend to just show up at your place with no warning, and help themselves to the communal area without texting in advance.
The male landlord is culturally insensitive and disrespects Muslim tenants.
Best Thing: Warmth
Worst Thing: Landlords
About the house: Surprised about the other reviews of 15 Ethel, I've always found the landlords to be very responsive and it's a new and warm building so hardly any maintenance issues. I think some international students are unaware of the realities of flatting and would get quite the shock when living in a place that doesn't pay all your bills and do your cleaning for you!
The internet did used to be very slow but has since been rectified and is now unlimited.
Agreed, the cleaning could be better but overall it's more than adequate.
Landlord/Property Manager: Very friendly, they even come and put our rubbish bins out on rubbish day!
Best Thing: Closeness to uni
Worst Thing: Noisy neighbours
About the house: I love my studio room here, the studio apartment is an incredibly well kept and regularly maintained place. it is never cold, because it is a modern studio apartment with heating. It is quiet place to study and sleep, but also close to the University and Polytechnic for studying.
There was some outside noise, earlier this year, but that was just a temporary construction happening next door.
I'm bewildered by the above comment regarding the culturally insensitive way of talking to any of the tenants here, as this landlord has always been polite, warm and courteous to me, and both of the landlords are good with dealing with an issue that may arise, sensitively, by texting first.
Landlord/Property Manager: The landlord has to come to the property weekly for routine maintenance and supports the cleaning of the whole building, I think.
Both landlords will be reasonable and answer your questions and try to meet your needs readily.
Best Thing: It's new, and its beautiful design
Worst Thing: Some noise from tenant below at times
About the house: Totally agree with previous teanants that both of the landord will promise everything when you shows interest in signing. They promise to clean the curtains when we have change in season which is about every 3 months and promise to provide electrical appliances apparently after I signed they are not doing anything as promised. Dont get cheated by the advertisement of unlimited power as we are not allowed to use our own heater and heater provided will turn off itself after one hour and not heater provided in bathroom. It is still very cold during winter. They asking us to pay so much and so called unlimited power but not allowed to use own heater. Think twice before you sign, as everything promised will not be dilevered after you signed. Cleaning was horrible as well because we still need to do our own cleaning before moving in as there was no spinr cleaning during the summer break.
Landlord/Property Manager: They are so annoying and keep complaining they are not earning money becasue the power bill was high. Our unit is paying about $3500 per month and the electric bill was about $400 monthly. Very disappointed with them.
Best Thing: location
Worst Thing: LANDLORDS
